Videografas verslui: kaip pasirinkti ir nepermokėti?

How to choose a video production partner for your business

This is the longest and most practical guide we have written, because the decision it describes is the one clients most often get wrong. Choosing a production partner is not choosing a camera operator — it is choosing who will be responsible for how your company is seen.

How a professional behaves

The first conversation is the test. A professional asks about your business: what you sell, who decides the purchase, which objection has to be removed, where the film will be shown and what should happen after it is watched. Someone who opens by proposing a drone, slow motion and dynamic music does not yet know what they are making.

The trap of beautiful shots: why a portfolio is not enough

A portfolio shows the best day of someone’s career. When you watch one, ask three questions instead of admiring it.

Did I understand what the company wanted to say?

If after two minutes you cannot state the message, the film failed regardless of how it looks.

Does every piece look the same?

Identical treatment for a clinic, a factory and a restaurant means a template is being applied rather than a problem being solved.

Does it hold attention without the spectacular shots?

Skip to the middle. If the film only works in its opening montage, it will not work in a sales conversation.

Seven questions to ask before hiring

  • 1. How will you establish the main message? The answer shows whether strategy exists or only production.
  • 2. Who writes the script? If nobody, you will be writing it.
  • 3. Who works with the person on camera? Someone must direct them, or they will look uncomfortable.
  • 4. Will there be preparation before the shoot? Location, clothing, timing, texts.
  • 5. What exactly is included in the price? Crew, lighting, sound, grading, subtitles, versions.
  • 6. How many revision rounds? And what counts as a revision.
  • 7. Who will own the material? Including whether you may adapt and reuse it.

Event filming: document or create content?

Decide before the event which of three products you are buying: documentation for the archive, a showcase film, or a package of short pieces for social media. The preparation, crew size and price differ for each, and choosing afterwards is not possible.

Does the producer’s city matter?

In business projects it should not be the deciding factor. Choosing a weaker producer because they are nearby is like choosing a lawyer by the distance to their office rather than by their specialisation. We work across Lithuania and travel abroad for projects.

The one-email test

Send one enquiry and read the reply. Does it answer your questions or send a price list? Does it ask something back? Is it written carefully? Communication before the contract is an accurate preview of communication during the project.

Three tests for the final decision

The strategy test

Did they ask about the business before talking about the camera?

The trust test

Would you let this person into a meeting with your most important client?

The value test

Are you comparing the same product in both quotes, or just two numbers?

Frequently asked questions

What must I ask a producer before signing?

Who exactly will be on set, who writes the script, how many revisions are included, who owns the footage and when you will receive the result. Vague answers on these points mean the risk is yours.

Who owns the footage?

It has to be set out in the contract. Normally the client receives the final film while the raw material stays with the producer, unless agreed otherwise. If you plan several versions from one shoot, say so before filming.

How long does production take?

From order to finished film usually two to four weeks: a week of preparation, the shooting day, and one to two weeks of editing with revisions. Rush jobs are possible but cost either quality or money.

Is one person with a good camera enough?

For a short piece, yes. When several people are on camera, lighting is built and sound has to be monitored, one person physically cannot control all three at once.
